Manhattan from Brooklyn
The views of Manhattan from Brooklyn are an absolute sight to behold. In the evenings, as the sun sets in the west, the shade of the sky behind the city will drastically shift. It starts off with oranges and pinks, but slowly as the evening goes by it shifts to a pink, purple, and blue. It's a wonderful transition to watch happen in real time, and one that warrants an entire evening's attention. These were shot from Brooklyn Bridge Park and Pebble Beach in Brooklyn. If you ever have an evening to kill in New York City, this might be the best place to do it. Grab yourself a pizza and some ice cream from the area around Dumbo, and head back to one of these spots to see it for yourself!
You may see the mist effect at the bottom of the picture and ask yourself "how does he get the image to have the mist?". Believe it or not, that look is completely natural! As the ferries pass by in the water, they create small waves that head over to the beach area that this shot was taken at. As those waves crash against the rocks, they create bursts of mists. Over the 30 seconds that this picture was taken, that mist is captured by the camera for a brief second, but long enough for the sensor to capture enough of the water to create a bit of a ghosting effect. This is why you see the water the way it is in this image; it makes for a really cool addition to any shot!
