Zermatt

In the southern region of Switzerland sits a small, unassuming town dwarfed by one of the most magestic peaks in the world. This town is known for two things; chocolate, and climbing. Zermatt's first claim to fame came when a few daring climbers set up to scale the Matterhorn, the region's most prominent peak. While some on the trek survived, others perished; thus, the challenge of climbing the Matterhorn was born, and daredevils flocked to the town. For me, though, I knew about this town and its mountains from my childhood. While some might think of Disney, I think of chocolate. Toblerone was one of my favorite chocolates growing up; I couldn't get enough of it. As I grew up, I became curious about whether the mountain on the packaging actually existed, and it wasn't until I started researching for this trip that I knew where it actually was. When we started to craft our itinerary, the Matterhorn made it to the top of the list. The feeling of awe I experienced as I hiked alongside that mountain is one I may have trouble replicating in the near future.
